Pillar 01

Put Residents First

I'll make it easier, not harder, for residents to participate, be heard, and understand what's happening in their government. Residents will be welcomed in Town Hall, not treated like they don't matter.

Town government belongs to the people who live here. Too often residents tell me the process feels designed to wear them down: meetings at inconvenient hours, agendas that are hard to follow, and public comment that feels like a formality instead of a conversation.

Putting residents first means making participation easy. That means plain language instead of jargon, clear notice before decisions are made, and information that is simple to find without knowing who to call.

It also means tone. When a resident walks into Town Hall or steps up to the microphone, they should be treated like an owner of this island, because they are.

What that means in practice

  • Make it easier to participate, be heard, and understand what the Town is doing
  • Explain decisions in plain language, before they are made and not after
  • Treat every resident who contacts the Town like they matter
